Pit to Pit

SUSTAINABILITY

At True Vintage we are very conscious of the impact our business has on the world around us. It’s what drives us to continually find ways to reduce any impact we have on the environment, and to ensure we are at the forefront of the sustainable fashion movement. So, what are we doing to reduce our impact on the environment?

VINTAGE CLOTHING

All of our vintage clothing is recycled, and sent out to our customers in 100% recyclable packaging. We are sourcing these clothes from around the world, and instead of them being sent to the inevitable landfill, we are saving them and giving them another chance at life.

Every single item we save and offer to our customers, is one less potential piece of clothing that needs to be produced in the future. It takes on average 2700 litres of water to produce one cotton t-shirt, the average water drunk by a human over 2 and a half years!

This means, over the space of a year, we are saving a potential 147 million litres of water! That’s the equivalent of over 60 Olympic sized swimming pools, or one day’s worth of water for nearly 1 million people!

NEW CLOTHING

We are always looking for new and interesting products to offer to our customers, but we still need these products to fall within our sustainability guidelines. Our new ranges of custom design t-shirts are made using organic cotton, manufactured locally to reduce the impact of transit, and produced to a high standard to give you longer lasting clothes. We have worked with our manufacturers to reduce the carbon footprint of the production for a t-shirt by up to 90%.

SHIPPING

The crucial part of online shopping, getting your order delivered to you. In 2019, we shipped orders to customers in over 80 countries around the world. We know this is a lot of miles for our parcels to travel, with a large potential impact on the environment.

We work with our couriers to reduce this impact. Royal Mail and all any subsequent national carriers (USPS, Australia Post, Swiss Post etc), invest in carbon offset programmes such as Woodland Trust’s Carbon Plus+, which plants native trees in the UK.

Our European customers have their orders delivered through the DPD network across the continent. From 2018, DPD have offset 100% of the carbon generated from their delivery network, making your orders effectively carbon neutral! On top of this, they are working to expand their fleet of electric vehicles, and they aim to reduce the carbon footprint for each of their parcels by 30% by 2025!

Lastly, for some of our international customers who might need their orders a bit quicker, we offer express worldwide shipping service through DHL. As one of the largest courier networks in the world, DHL are thoroughly invested in a number of carbon offset projects, including reforestation programmes and minimising their global carbon footprint.

WHY BUY VINTAGE?

Buying vintage is more than enjoying unique and classic clothes. It is a step away from the unethical and unmaintainable ‘Fast Fashion’ mentality, and a step towards buying quality over quantity, giving recycled clothes use for years or even decades to come.
